U4U discussion “Russian Nuclear Industry Sanctions”

2023-04-24 | Expert publications, Political initiatives, Energy, Events

United for Ukraine Network together with Eastern Circles, DiXi Group, Urgewald, Friends of the Earth Europe, and Stand with Ukraine NGOs organized a round-table on “Russian nuclear industry sanctions”.

Over one year after the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, there are no significant sanctions against Rosatom. This is all the more remarkable given that the company is directly linked to the Kremlin on the one hand and actively involved in the war effort on the other. Russia has occupied and taken possession of NPP Zaporizhzhia, the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, with the help of Rosatom. The round-table experts will discuss Rosatom’s connection with the Russian state, the current state of sanctions within the nuclear energy sector, interrelations of European companies with Rosatom, and interdependence of Europe and Russia in the nuclear sector. The discussion will explore the potential for further nuclear sanctions and their impact on European nuclear safety and security.
