U4U Webinar: Putting Wagner Group on EU terrorist list

The European Parliament has passed a resolution calling on the EU Member States and Council to include Wagner Group on the EU terrorist list. Currently, the Wagner Group itself, as well as eight individuals and three entities connected to it, are sanctioned under four different EU sanctions regimes. However, so far no decision at the EU level has been taken to include Wagner Group on the EU terrorist list. Only few Member States have initiated or passed resolutions in national parliaments naming Wagner as a terrorist group.
Wagner’s atrocities in Ukraine are widely reported. Wagner Group is long active in a variety of countries in the MENA region and Africa as well. In some of these countries, they have established an almost permanent presence. Ultimately, Wagner Group is a security threat to the European Union – the Group’s military presence around EU’s borders is spreading not only in the East, but also in the South.
What exactly is Wagner Group’s agenda? What is the exact status and nature of Wagner Group? What impeded so far the decision to include Wagner Group in the EU terrorist list? How to facilitate such decision at the national and EU level?
