Ukraine, Europe and a second Treaty of Rome

In the newsletter of the European Stability Initiative, it is argued that in the light of the current developments and concerns, there still is a way for Ukraine for the EU membership. Ukraine should be granted a candidate status and have open accession talks now. In addition, it should be offered the following: All candidate countries that meet the criteria to join the EU, including respect for human rights and the rule of law, should gain full access to the four freedoms – freedom of movement for goods, people, services and capital – and to the European Single Market. Citizens and businesses would then enjoy the same rights as those from EU members or Norway and Iceland enjoy today.
