Discussion “Establishment of the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine: European Parliament strategy of action”

2023-01-10 | Events, Political initiatives, International tribunal

United for Ukraine Network would like to invite you to join the presentation and discussion with Mr. Andrii SMYRNOV, Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine and Mr. Anton KORYNEVYCH, Ambassador-at-large, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine entitled:

“Establishment of the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine: European Parliament strategy of action”.

The event will take place on 12 of January, 13:00 – 14:00 (Brussels time) online via Webex and offline (Room A5F385).

This presentation will be followed by a discussion and will touch upon the necessity to strengthen international and in particular the European efforts for the establishment of the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine, which would make the leadership of the Russian Federation, in particular its President Putin, accountable for the horrific crimes against the people of Ukraine crimes, which they once again demonstrated  during the peaceful time of the Orthodox Christmas by exposing the terrorist state nature of their acts that contained the massive attacks on the people and a critical infrastructure on the territory of Ukraine.

As international legal experts have repeated many times during the last year – the crime of war aggression is the leadership crime, crime of war aggression is the “mother crime” of all other war crimes, perpetrated in Ukraine, and ICC has no mandate to investigate the crime of war aggression.

International justice for crime of war aggression is very much needed not only for Ukraine, but also for the whole democratic world. Establishment of Special Tribunal for crime of war aggression can have a major impact on developments in Russia itself.

This discussion will contribute to the adoption by the European Parliament of a resolution calling for effective establishment of the Special Tribunal in the forthcoming meeting of the plenary.
